Buenos Aires

Located in the Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires,

is one of the most charming cities in the world. The city was founded in 1536 under the name of Ciudad de Nuestra Señora del Buen Ayre. After a few years dominated by the Spanish, became independent in 1816. It is one of the most cultural cities in South America, there are lots of museums and galleries,  live music, orchestras and has a very rich cuisine. The Tango is connected to Buenos Aires and grew up in poorer neighborhoods of the city particularly in La Boca and San Telmo. The nightlife is very exciting, there are many bars connected to tango, the Milongas. The main touristy sites are located in the city center, called Microcentro. Don’t forget to visit “Caminito“, the most famous street museum of La Boca.  The neighborhood of Palermo has a huge park which is great for a walk. San Telmo has an excellent Sunday market and Recoleta is famous for a full weekend craft fair. The Argentine beef is known worldwide and Buenos Aires has magnificent restaurants where the specialty is served. It is worthy a visit to the Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza de Mayo and 9 de Julio Avenue, one of the largest in Latin America that focuses some city attractions such as the Obelisk, Plaza de la Republica, the Teatro Colon and the statue of Don Quixote at the crossroads of Avenida de Mayo. Transports in Buenos Aires

Ezeiza International Airport (EZE): There are many international flights to Buenos Aires, from cities of South, Central and North America and also from Europe and Australia.

Jorge Newbery (AEP): This secondary airport receives mostly the domestic flights but there are also flights to/from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.

By bus: There are buses to/from several Argentinian cities and also to/from Santiago in Chile leaving from Terminal de Omnibus de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

By boat: There are daily boats to/from Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay with the companies Colonia Express, Buquebus and Ferrytour.

Metro: The subway system of Buenos Aires is called Subte, it is cheap and efficient.

Football in Buenos Aires

The two biggest Argentinian teams are from Buenos Aires, the worldwide famous Boca Juniors and River Plate. Boca Juniors is from La Boca, River Plate, formerly from La Boca plays now in Belgrano. There are another three teams that form the Big Five of Buenos Aires, they are San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club.
