It is an island bathed in the Hudson River (west) and the Harlem River (north), has 21.6 km (13.4 mi) long and 3.7 kilometers (2.3 mi) wide at 14th Street, the point wider. It is the financial, commercial and cultural center of New York City. The urban landscape of Manhattan often appears in films and tv series, when someone comes to Manhattan for the first time, has a familiar feel to already know the place.
