The circle of 5000 stones at Stonehenge

is unanimously recognized as the Europe’s most famous prehistoric site. The outer circle and the valley was built in 3000 BC, the inner circle of blue stones granite, was built 1000 years later. It is thought that these granite rocks weighing four tons, have been dragged from South Wales for about 400 km (250 miles). They were the main alignments and there are also other stones in place.  It is a fascination of archeology, Stonehenge remains a mystery although there are many different theories in regards its original purpose. The two inner horseshoes are aligned along the rising and settings of the sun at the solstices midsummer and midwinter. The whole area is full of Stonehenge prehistoric sites, some of them on private land but none attracts so much curiosity as this site. Stonehenge is considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it receives nearly one million visitors every year. The best way to get to Stonehenge is to catch a bus in the city of Salisbury away 12 km (8 mi) Hotels in Salisbury
