British Museum

The British Museum is one of the

largest museums in the world, not only by the volume of treasures it holds, but also for the enormous quality of its collections, there are approximately 8 million objects. The current building dates from 1823 and is an excellent example of neoclassical architecture. The collection began in 1753 when Hans Sloane offered their extensive collections of art and antiques to Parliament. This was followed by other collections such as the Royal Library, given by George II. In the 1880s, the collection was moved to a new building. It’s one of the landmarks of London, one of the most visited museums of the world. In 2000 the Great Court was remodeled and Norman Foster designed a roof of glass and steel. The museum houses priceless artifacts, including the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon, the Rosetta Stone, a giant head of Easter Island and the spectacular Egyptian collection. The entry is free and you can get the British Museum by Tube stations of Russell Square, Covent Garden, Holborn and Tottenham Court Road.
