Southern Alps
The Southern Alps are located
in the South Island of New Zealand. It is a mountain range 550 km (340 mi) long with 17 mountains exceed 3000 m (10000 ft) snow-capped for much of all of the year. Captain Cook described the Southern Alps as “prodigious high” when he saw it from out the sea. The mountains of Southern Alps are very popular in the community of hikers, walkers and climbers.
