Rialto Bridge
The Rialto Bridge was not always
as we know it today, in times where there was a wooden bridge that fell in 1444 with the weight of a crowd, later there was a drawbridge that opened to the passage of boats with tall masts . The current bridge was built over by Antonio da Ponte who was not an architect known at that time, his project gained the most famous names as well as Sansovino, Scamozzi, Palladio and even the great Michelangelo. The experience of Antonio da Ponte, hydraulic engineer, a master-builder of many public buildings of Venice, facilitated his appointment to the work. Inside the bridge can be seen reliefs of the patron saints of the city, St. Theodore and St. Mark. The Rialto Bridge is one of the few that allows cross the Grand Canal.
