of Florence lies the beautiful city of Siena, a true picture of what Tuscany is. A landscape of rolling hills with a bright light, warm and golden, perfect geometry and a huge farms with very specific colors of this beautiful region of Italy. Ruled by the Etruscans and subsequently by the Romans, the Milanese Visconti family, by the Spanish and finally by Cosimo I de Medici, the history of Siena was quite turbulent. Today is a quiet little town in perfect harmony with what was built long time ago. Dominated by the Romanesque cathedral (Duomo) on top of a hill, the historic centre of Siena is a charming maze of narrow streets and sunny squares withvery old churches. All places of Siena converge to the famous Piazza del Campo, a huge shell shaped square. It is one of the largest squares in the world and twice a year receives a historical event called Palio. Also in the Piazza del Campo stands the Palazzo Publico and the Torre del Mangia, all these places are World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Don’t forget to see also the Museo de l’Opera del Duomo, the Pinacoteca Nazionale and the Church of Saint Domenico. Try to visit Siena during the Palio to better understand the tradition of this event that has endured for centuries.  Hotels in Siena
