Lake Maggiore is a fascinating place

which marks part of the border between Italy and Switzerland. It occupies two regions of Italy, Lombardy and Piedmont. Within the lake there are the Borromean islands which are easy to reach in small boats or water taxis. The Isola Bella has a gorgeous palace that must be visited, the Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori also deserve a visit. Do not miss the Omavasso, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Boden, the Sanctuary of Santa Catarina del Sasso and the villages on the shores of the lake. Lake Maggiore is one of the three big lakes in this region, the other are Lake Como and Lake Garda. Locarno is the major Switzerland city on the lake.
