Luca Pitti, a wealthy Florentine merchant,

wanted a family home that surpassed all the palaces of Florence, especially the Médicis rivals. The financial ruin of the Pitti family, forced Leonor, wife of Cosimo I de Medici, acquire the palace and enlarge it to the size it is today. When the Medici family bought the Pitti Palace, this was the residence of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany. It is one of the Florence‘s highlights.
