Tours is a fine city situated on the

Lower River Loire at its confluence with the River Cher halfway between Orléans and the Atlantic Ocean. During the Franco-Prussian War, when Paris was under siege, Tours was the capital of France from 1871 to 1879. Tours is the most popular jumping-off city in Loire Valley with many connections by bus or train to the great chateaux (castles) of the region. Don’t miss the Botanic Garden, the François Sicard Square, the Gothic Cathedral and the Beaux-Arts Town Hall. Touraine area produces good wine and Tours is sometimes called “The Garden of France”.
