Sainte Chapelle

The stunning Sainte-Chapelle

situated on Île de la Cité in Paris close to the Pont Neuf it was originally part of the former royal palace. One of the highlights is a enormous tower 74 m (243 ft). The chapel was built in 1248 by Louis IX to receive the crown of thorns and pieces of the True Cross which had been gained to the Emperor of Constantinople in return for big Money, bigger than the cost of Sainte-Chapelle itself.  Many relics that are permanently in Cathedral of Notre-Dame are exposed in the Sainte-Chapelle every Friday before Easter. The chapel has two levels, the lowest was for the servants of the palace while the top was occupied by courtiers and royalty, the upper level is reached by a beautiful spiral staircase. The top is one of the excellent examples of High Gothic and is famous for stunning stained glass windows that make up almost all the walls. The windows tell stories of the Bible from Genesis to Apocalypse. Known as the “Jewel Box” Saint-Chapelle has free entry. It is one of the most beautiful buildings of ParisHotels in Paris
