Lyon

Located in eastern France,

Lyon was an important Roman settlement and a financial centre in the Middle Ages. It is a modern city with a frantic pace. The rivers Rhône and Saône converge in the south of historic centre, forming a peninsula. At the centre of Lyon, lies one of the largest squares in France, Place Bellecour. Lyon has a hill west (Fourvière) and another north (Croix-Rousse) which housed the workshops that produced the most famous product of the city, the silk. One of the most beautiful landmarks of Lyon is the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The headquarters of Interpol is in Lyon.
