Bastia and Ajaccio which is the capital, are the two largest cities of Corsica island that has a very varied landscape, Mount Belt is the highest peak with 2707 m (8798 ft). The mountains are divided into deep valleys carved by rivers. The Corsica belongs to France since 1768, but many Corsicans feel more Italian than French, the language (Corsu) derives from the indigenous Tuscan. Throughout history Corsica was ruled by the Vandals, Romans, Greeks, Genoese and briefly by the British.
