The Topkapi Palace (Topkapi Sarayi)

stands on the promontory Seraglio Point in the heart of Old City of Istanbul. On the top there are great views over Bosphorus and Sea of Marmara. The complex of the Palace is very extense, the area covers about 70 ha (175 acres) and was the home of 40 000 people. Mehmet II began the building of Topkapi in 1462, the Otoman Empire was ruled from here for nearly 400 years. The Middle Gate is the entry door for the thousands of visitors that wants to know the former headquarter of the empire. Once you are in the Topkapi Palace, don’t miss the Second Court, Council of State, the Treasury and the Divan Court a maze of almost 400 apartments, rooms, halls and terraces.
