Sichuan is known as the “Land of Plenty”

and Huanglong Valley also known as Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area is considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Surrounded by the Tibetan Plateau, the Three Gorges and the Yangtze River, Huanglong Valley is one of the most impressive areas of the province of Sichuan, covering an area of about 700 km ² (270 sq mi). Huanglong is a unique setting, with many natural resources and virgin forest. The lakes and waterfalls gives the place a unique beauty, there are also the colorful forests with some snowy peaks. The Tibetan folk villages in the mountains harmoniously built that shine like jewels, giving it the nickname “mountain fairyland.” Huanglong Valley reflects the ‘Yellow Dragon Valley’. This great valley is situated on the south side of the ridge Minshan in Songpan County about 250 km (155 miles) away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan. There is a legend with about 4000 years ago, when a yellow dragon helped Xiayu, the king of the Xia Kingdom, brought water from the sea, creating the Minjiang River. Due to deposits of calcium carbonate and the hue of gold water, the river is like the tail of a yellow dragon. The valley was named and a temple built in honor of the yellow dragon. Huanglong is a landscape that seems to spell with limestone formations that seem carved from the river. There are 3400 colored lakes and several waterfalls, temples and caves with stalactites.
