Guilin

The beautiful landscape of Guilin

is not always easy to understand. The Li River with its emerald green limestone that apparently float to the surface of the river is a magical landscape that hides historical treasures. The Li River, with a history of 360 million years, runs southeast of Guilin city and has a hill with the shape of an elephant’s trunk its great attraction. The “elephant’s trunk” stands around 55 m (180 ft) above the water, has a length of 108 m (354 ft) and 100 m (328 ft) wide. Between the torso and the legs of the elephant is a cavefull moon shape that penetrates the hill. The people of Guilin call it “Moon-over-Water Cave” and days of strong lunar brightness images are quite lovely. The walls of the cave has more than 70 entries alluding to the dynasties of Tang and Song. Nearby there is another cave where you can enjoy the beautiful city of Guilin. At the top of the hill is Puxian Pagoda which was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Its shape looks like the hilt of a sword and has within it the famous sculptures and inscriptions, one of which a poem by Lu You, one of the great poets of the Song Dynasty. One of the things not to miss in a visit to Guilin is a cruise on the Li River to Yangshuo destination, is the best that Guangxi province can offer. The green rice fields, childrenwaving on the shores, fishermen on rafts of bamboo mixed with the innate beauty of theriver make the trip unforgettable. Try to visit Guilin between April and October. Hotels in Guilin
