The five Great Lakes of North America

are the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth and marks part of the border between Canada and the United States, all the lakes are either in or near the border. The Great Lakes are Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Formed ten thousand years ago, when the Laurentide ice sheet, melting and retreated filled the valley, which had been gouged by glaciers. As the glaciers melted and began to retreat, left behind high ridges. Twenty percent of global freshwater is concentrated in the Five Great Lakes. The surface of the Five Lakes area is higher than England, Scotland and Wales together. Lake Superior is the largest and has a larger area than the Czechia. The landscape around the lake is stunning and makes this site one of the most popular in North America. Toronto (Canada) and Chicago (USA) are two cities on the shores of one of the lakes and the main getaways to explore this wonderful piece of nature. Hotels in Toronto and Chicago
