Christmas Island

Christmas Island is an Australian island

located in the Indian Ocean. The island became known worldwide after David Attenborough showed millions of red crabs on the beach running towards the sea. The Christmas Island is a refuge from reality, a paradise for scientists. Flying Fish Cove is the main settlement of Christmas Island. It lies 360 km (224 mi) south of Jakarta in Indonesia, and 2300 km (1429 mi) northwest of Perth. The island’s population is a mix of Chinese, Malays, Europeans and Australians. The island is called Christmas because it was sighted by Captain William Mynors of British East India Company’s Royal Mary, on December 25, 1643. The famous red crabs inhabit the island where you must see the Hugh’s Waterfall, the Blowholes and the rainforest. You can dive with Whale Sharks between October and April and swimming and snorkeling all year.
