Similan Islands
In southern Thailand, 70 kms from Phang Nga,
lies one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world. Thai in Similan means nine, the number of islands that make up this real paradise on earth. Ko Bon, Ko Bayu, Ko Similan, Ko Payu, Ko Miang (two islands), Ko Payan, Ko Payang and Ko Huyong are among the nine islands that visitors just call numerically. Similan, located in the Andaman Sea, has been considered by many dive magazines, one of ten places in the world with undersea life better and more beautiful to dive and snorkel. The Similan Islands offer two types of diving, on the east side, is protected from storms and monsoons, the white sand beaches and reefs gently sloping provide a safe environment, ideal for snorkeling. In the west, with the full force of the waves, rugged granite stones are among the reefs, caves, 30 m deep, ideal for diving. The most famous place for diving is Elephant’s Head. The Similan Islands are uninhabited, only live national park rangers and visitors staying in the few tents available in only one (Ko Miang) of the nine islands. What can I expect?
In the list of must-see for all lovers of scuba diving, Similan Islands are considered one of the top 10 dive sites in the world, the name comes from the word Moloy for nine, Sembilan, because there are nine islands of the archipelago. In Thai, each island has a number and a name. The islands are small and uninhabited because the archipelago is a marine national park. However, the attraction is deeper: under the sea water clear result and visibility of 2-30 m (7-98 feet) between the rails and the walls of the sea. There are leopard sharks enough to delight nature lovers, and a sighting of whale sharks indescribable and exotic can be a dream come true. The best diving is from December to May, and it can get very crowded during peak holidays such as Christmas and New Year holidays Thai in April. During these moments, the most popular dive sites give the impression of parking for boots!
