In northern Thailand, near the border with Myanmar,

lies the small town of Pai. Located 80 km (50 mi) of Chiang Mai, the city lies on the banks of the Pai River. Pai is located on a major road linking Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son, Route 1095. A few years ago, Pai was a small and quiet village inhabited by Shan people (ethnic people whose culture has influences by Burma), today receives much tourism, and is definitely in tourist routes of Thailand. Pai is in the mountains and many visitors use the city as a base for trekking and to visit some tribes like Karen, Hmong, Lisu and Lahu. Weekly, Pai receives the Wednesday Market, many residents of Pai Valley and some members of certain tribes, come to town obtain supplies of necessary goods. Hotels in Pai
