The Batu Caves were discovered in 1878

by the Western world, were only known by local tribes. The beautiful caves are located near Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. During a Hindu Festival of Thaipusam which takes place between January and February, the Batu Caves, a sacred place, receives almost a million visitors. The area has more than 500 limestone hills and 700 caves, full of splendid stalagmites and stalactites. The largest cave is 400 m (1313 ft) long, is known as the “Temple” and “Cathedral”.
