in Indonesia is one of the most majestic temples of the world, Borobudur Temple with a surface area of 2500 sq m (8202 sq ft). The Buddhist temple UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a pyramid formed by three circular terraces and six rectangular stories with a central stupa forming the summit. The whole structure has the shape of a lotus flower, the sacred flower of Buddha. The walls are decorated with bas-reliefs and around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas each with a statue. Rice terraces and idyllic landscapes surround whole area around Borobudur. Built in the 8th century, the temple took 80 years to be finished for the Sailendra dynasty. It is now one of the most visited places in Indonesia, was built as a Hindu temple and then became a Buddhist. How to proliferate Islam in Indonesia was long abandoned but was rediscovered in 1814 by English settlers. The city of Yogyakarta is only 40 kms away.
