Lake Tanganyika is situated in the Western Rift,

is one of the oldest lakes in the world. The lake is surrounded by the side walls of the Great Rift Valley that rise up to 2000 m (6600 ft). It’s the longest lake in the world, at 673 km (421 mi), the second deepest and the second largest freshwater lake by volume. Two large and smaller rivers flow into Tanganyica, which has one major outflow, the Lukuga River.There are more than 1500 species of fauna and flora. Lake Tanganyika is very important to more than 10 million people living on its banks.
