Fez is a city located in the heart of northern Morocco.

It was the imperial capital under the dynasties Merenid, Wattasid and Alaouite, Fez or Fes has been for centuries the centre of intellectual and spiritual history of the country. It has been a major cultural sites in the West, rivaling the great university towns of Europe. Today is a medieval Islamic city with labyrinthine streets, exotic smells of mint and spices floating in the air. The old town is one of the largest medieval cities in the world, the souk has almost 2 km (1.3 mi) in length. In the Medina of Fez (old town) remains the seven elements, mosques, medersas (Koranic schools), souks (markets), fondouks (lodging and trading houses), fountains, a hamam (steam bath) and a bakery. The narrow streets are filled with artisans selling their products at the same time they made it using traditional techniques. The gates and city walls are intact and are very beautiful.
