Great Rift Valley

The Great Rift Valley was created

about 20 million years ago when the Earth’s crust weakened and tore up, causing a rift irregular with thousands of kms long across the African continent. After erupted, created great volcanic mountains, while the valley floor sank a flat plain. This geological phenomenon was called the Great Rift Valley by the Scottish explorer John Walter Gregory. The Rift Valley divides Kenya, on one side, the uninhabitable desert on the other fertile lands. This natural division has variables widths from 45 km (28 mi) to 100 km (60 mi). In the Rift Valley there are 30 active volcanoes and semi-active, and many hot springs, there are also important lakes such as Lake Turkana, Lake Naivasha, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita and Lake MagadiHotels in Kenya
